Scottrade Center has produced substantial direct and indirect
economic benefits for the St. Louis metropolitan area, both on a one-time
basis during the arena’s twenty-two month construction and on an ongoing
basis now that the facility is complete and operational. These benefits
are measured by the amount of spending, income and jobs associated with
Scottrade Center, as well as by revenues provided to the City of St. Louis
through various taxes. Direct and immediate benefits are derived from
1) spending by Scottrade Center for such expenses as employee salaries and
the purchase of goods and services and 2) customer spending at Scottrade Center. Indirect, less obvious benefits are the result of Scottrade Center’s
ability to support jobs, income and spending by other businesses in the
community.
The full impact of Scottrade Center’s
construction phase combined direct and indirect benefits
and was determined by applying economic multipliers for
output, income and jobs to the direct dollar spending on
construction. The full impact of Scottrade Center’s operations
also combines direct and indirect benefits and is
determined by applying economic multipliers for output,
income and jobs to the total dollar volume of direct
activity of operations. The following is a summary of the
projected economic impact of Scottrade Center on the overall
